ABRAHAM – FAITH IN ACTION IN THE HOME

GENESIS 18
God’s Testimony Concerning Abraham: For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, so that the LORD will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.” <18:19 NIV>
My faith and my involvement with God, the sincerity of my service to Him, will directly affect my children <see Deut.6:7; Prov.22:6>. It is the examples that we set, the commitment that we exemplify and the involvement in God’s service that our children see in us that will be a lasting impression on their lives. Such dedication to God will go with our children wherever they go and will constantly remind them throughout their lives that they too should dedicate their lives to God’s service. It is unfortunate, however, that not all children will follow in the footsteps of their father, for each one has to make their individual decision to follow God, but the example must been given.
Abraham faithfully followed God and established his altars of worship wherever he pitched his Tent, and this became the standard for his children and grandchildren; and as they matured in their lives God selected those that chose to follow Him. So we too are expected to set the same examples in our home-life so our children will be encouraged to desire to worship God and dedicate their lives to His service.
My commitment in worship and service to God will influence my children! < Deut.6:20-25; Jos.8:34-35; 2 Chr.20:13; Ezra 8:21; Neh.12:43; Matt.21:15>
Our thanks, O God, for fathers Who follow in Thy way,
And who, with glad and trusting hearts, Exalt Thee every day.
Our thanks, O God, for fathers Who show, by word and deed,
Commitment to Thy will and plan, And Thy commandments heed.
Our thanks, O God, for fathers Who meet Thee oft in prayer,
And who, for all life’s toil and care, Find strength and wisdom there.
How blessed are the children Who in their fathers see
The tender Father-love of God, And find their way to thee.
